A social design project in collaboration with a social workplace in Rotterdam De Delft. Still the majority of the goods we buy, are produced by big brands, and they often originate from low-wage countries to maximize profit. The challenge and goal in this project is getting these locally and socially produced products in stores through a conventional mainstream channel. Together with social workplace de Delft and Dutch design brand Pols Potten we set out to develop furniture that can healthfully exist next to regular high-end furniture without any outside government support. In this way social design will not be dependent and is hopefully here to stay. It gives us a different kind of satisfaction to be presenting a collection that is made by people who for several reasons became detached from our working community. Together we build on their self-esteem and skills, the basic ingredients to grow and live a self-fulfilling life, bringing them closer to finding their way back into our working community.
