Diederik Schneemann’s latest project. Starting point is the concept of collecting. Often using old collections, which people gathered in the course of decades, and which now lay wasting away in attics or cellars. These collections evoke a certain era, early memories or youth sentiment. Think matchboxes, pins, perfume bottles or… smurfs. Schneemann goes in search of discarded unique collections that evoke his imagination. And like in his other projects he transforms these collections into new objects, where the collection, as a raw material, regains a new reality, a new life.
In addition, a number of works from Schneemann’s previous collections A Flip Flop Story, 3D Printed Mash Ups, and the more recent Rubdish are on display in this show, including new work which should be seen as an extra to the existing collections.
The exhibition is an overview of Schneemann’s work to date. In his work he doesn’t limit himself to one discipline, but thematically you can distinguish a clear line of development in which he redefines themes in an evocative way and adds extra dimensions to create new realities.
